I love Grant Morrison.
I was struck by his layer of a city under the visible city... This is a true/unreal thing... A dream world if you will that one can see or not see.
Barbelith... So, I also like the interview of the author Jeff Vandermeer for just this element as well. In G.M's Invisibles he has this element. Also calls to mind the Bible's statement (gosh, where was it at..) that each city is governed by an arch angel, a spirit, that was referred to as a principality... Really, seriously: the city is a live real thing, as in, it lives and breathes. We are its red blood cells.
I have seen the face of this creature personally, glimpses of it.
Very similar to the face of the city in Brazil, "stay.... Don't go, stay..." It wants us to carry its concrete, steel and glass.. To spread it out.
